CITY OF STUTTGART UPGRADE OF THE ZEISS VELVET PROJECTORS IN THE CARL ZEISS PLANETARIUM
The nine "VELVET" projectors in the Carl Zeiss Planetarium are being retrofitted and equipped with LED light sources. The retrofit will take place from July 25 to August 22. During this time, the planetarium will be closed. The conversion will be carried out by the manufacturer in Jena and will bring many advantages: Since LEDs do not consume electricity in stand-by – unlike old lamps – up to 40 percent energy is saved. In addition, LEDs have a significantly longer service life and are therefore more resource-efficient. Another major advantage is that projection with LEDs onto the planetarium dome is more color-intensive, brighter and quieter, because LEDs require less cooling than halogen lamps. The projectors are a centerpiece of the planetarium and the technical system for dome-filling video projection.
