ZEISS handed over new digital projection technology for the planetarium of the National Museum in the capital of the emirate of Kuwait. The new system consists of nine video projectors for the 15-m-dome. The upgrade replaces an older fulldome system and also includes new computer technology and the modernization of the sound system.
Kuwait's planetarium has a turbulent history. It was one of the first in the Gulf region to be inaugurated in 1986 with a planetarium projector from ZEISS. The dome and technology burned out during the Gulf War in 1990. The building was reconstructed around 2000. In 2002, the new ZEISS STARMASTER planetarium projector moved in, and in 2007 the first digital projection system. The STARMASTER projector continues to provide a realistic starry sky in the beautiful planetarium.
